This symposium features discussion of relevant topics for administrators regarding the education of
diverse student populations. Learn about the important features of English-medium classrooms and
the research that supports effective practices. The authors of CABE’s new publication, Redesigning
English-Medium Classrooms: Using Research to Enhance English Learner Achievement will share
important instructional components and strategies for ensuring equitable programs for English
Learners.
Lauri Burnham Massey
CABE Director of Legislative Affairs
Lauri Burnham-Massey served for more than a decade at the California Department of
Education as an education programs consultant and then administrator of the English Learner
Accountability Unit. Ms. Burnham-Massey has been a consultant to several school districts, and
she continues her interest in English learner education and public service by serving on the board
of directors of the California Association for Bilingual Education, and contributing her insights
into public policy discussions at the state level.
David Dolson
Educational Consultant
David Dolson has focused on research, evaluation, and administration of programs for language minority,
immigrant, refugee, migrant, and foreign language students. He was principal editor
for the publication Schooling and Language Minority Students: A Theoretical Framework. Dr.
Dolson has been involved in the implementation of dual-language programs in the United States,
Mexico, Spain, and Bolivia.
