Two-Way
Bilingual Immersion Teacher of the Year

CABE
recognizes that there are many outstanding two-way bilingual
immersion classroom teachers in the United States. This award is in recognition
of those educators who have made contributions to Two-Way Bilingual Immersion
(TWBI) Programs beyond the normal scope of their assigned responsibilities.
At the 16th Annual National Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Conference in
Monterey, California, a TWBI teacher will be honored for her/his excellence,
dedication and advocacy for Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Programs.
Each TWBI
school district is invited to submit one nominee for the Two-Way Bilingual
Immersion Teacher of the Year Award. A committee of TWBI educators will
select the honoree from the submitted applicants.

CABE is proud to recognize the Education Office
of the Consulate General of Spain as the primary sponsor of this event.
The Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Teacher of the Year will receive:
- Complimentary
registration to the 16th Annual Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Program
Conference
- Scholarship
for a 3-week course in Spanish language and culture in Spain .
- $1000
cash award to assist with travel to Spain

Nomination Criteria
Each nominee must meet all of the following criteria to be considered
for this award:
- Current
2-Way
CABE member or member of local state bilingual association
- Current
TWBI classroom teacher (K 12)
- Minimum
of three years TWBI teaching experience
- Bilingual
teacher credential or certification
- Outstanding
contributions to TWBI education
- Philosophy
that reflects cultural competence and high expectations
- Advocacy
for TWBI proven practices and research
- Nominated
by the principal/supervisor
- Submission
of complete portfolio
Portfolio Requirements
Two complete copies of a portfolio (maximum of 10 pages only will be accepted)
and a black and white photo must be submitted. Please be advised that
items will not be returned.
Portfolio Contents:
- Completed
official nomination form
- Biographical
resume (2 pages maximum)
- Statement
of philosophy on TWBI: What it is like to be a teacher/learner in her/his
classroom; address two key local, state or national issues having to
do with TWBI; include an anecdote that illustrates the power of TWBI.
(5 pages maximum)
- 2-Way
CABE and Community service (2 pages maximum)
- Letter
of support/recommendation from supervisor
- Two (2)additional
letters of support/recommendation from colleagues, students, parents
or others
- Video
segment (3-5 minutes) showing the teacher interacting in the classroom
(only 1 tape required)
